Is salvation found only in the Book of
Acts? This is a very important subject for those
have been raised in the United Pentecostal Church (UPCI). As a
former UPCI ordained minister, I believed that Acts 2:38 was
the New Birth and the plan of salvation. One of the ways I
supported this doctrine was called Gospels-Acts-Epistles.
GAE claims that we cannot find the plan of salvation in the
Epistles and we must look to Acts - particularly Acts 2:38 -
to find the way to be saved.
This is still taught throughout the UPCI. In
1996 God opened my heart to understand the Gospel. I learned
that Jesus is my righteousness and by faith in Him I am
right with God. I shared (am sharing) the truths of
justification by faith from Romans, Galatians, et. al.,
with many in the UPCI. One of the main rebuttals to this was
the Gospels-Acts-Epistles way of reading the Bible. People
from the UPCI wrote and said I could not refer to Romans or
any of the Epistles because salvation is only taught in the
Book of Acts.
In order to help many people who are misled
by this interpretation I have written this paper. In it I
share the problems of where we find salvation in the Bible,
the definition of Gospels-Acts-Epistles, the history behind
it, how it supports the UPCI doctrine of salvation, where we
find salvation in the Bible and 24 reasons why GAE is
incorrect as a way of reading the Bible.
I strongly urging anyone who is in the UPCI
to read and study these writings because it may help you
rethink the way you have read the Book of Acts and the
Epistles. More, it may open up a better understanding of the
meaning of salvation and how the Bible conveys it to you.
I have presented this material in several
different papers and format to fit your reading needs. This
is to help you as a reader work your way through the
material. If you wish to read basic, less technical answers
to this issue, you can look at the outlines and the shorter
papers linked below. If you are person who likes to dive
deep into the subject and wants to get into the hard
questions, you can go right to the main paper.
Please feel free to write me with your
questions and comments after you have read any of these
writings.
The main paper can be read or downloaded in
PDF format at this link:
Where Do We Find the 'Plan of Salvation'?
If you would like to read the full paper a
chapter at a time online then go to:
If you would like to read an outline of 10
short reasons why Gospels-Acts-Epistles is incorrect you can
read
"Preliminary Reasons GAE is Flawed (Outline)"
If you would like to read the entire paper of
10 short reasons why Gospels-Acts-Epistles is incorrect you
can read
"Preliminary Reasons Why GAE is Flawed."
If you would like to read a more detailed,
formal critique of Gospels-Acts-Epistles you can read
"Formal Reasons Why Gospels-Acts-Epistles is Incorrect."
If you would like to see an outline of the
entire 24 reasons,
"24 Reasons
Why "Gospels-Acts-Epistles" Hermeneutic is Wrong (Outline)"
I would encourage you to read
the whole paper even if it takes some time. It is very
important to how you think about the Bible. God intended us
to understand the truth that His Word conveys salvation
history. To understand this history we need to read the
whole Bible in a way that takes in the whole scope of the
Bible's message.
