WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
There is nothing more important to the Christian
and the Church than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the same time, there is
nothing more questioned today among Christians. There are now many different
gospels being preached in the church. Some of them sounding very close to that
of the Bible, but with subtle differences that shift the faith away from the
work of Christ to the culture, church group or individual. It could be said that
in our times the main issue among Christians is a battle for the
Gospel. |
What is the Gospel? It is the good tidings about Jesus. The
word gospel is a word which summarizes in one word all the important things that Scripture
teaches about Jesus and that are important to the Christian faith. It is the good news or
good report of what God has done in Jesus.
The Gospel is the word for what happens for us through the
death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. (1 Cor 15:1-3) Through Jesus’ death, burial
and resurrection we died to sin and are raised to right standing with God as a new
creation. Through Jesus we die and we live eternally.
God is incarnated and acts in Jesus to save Humanity from
the terrible calamity of sin and judgment. Jesus lived in perfect obedience to the Father.
He lived a righteous life; He offered His life on the Cross, in our behalf, as an act of
grace. He did this to take the world’s sin and give those who believe in Him His
righteousness.
The gift of Jesus’ righteousness is given by grace. It
is received through faith. Those who believe and trust in Jesus as their perfect sacrifice
are counted or considered by God as possessing the righteousness of Jesus. Apostle Paul
calls this "justification". It is this truth of "the righteousness of
God" which changed my whole life!
This website is devoted primarily to
faith in, declaration of, and articulation and explication of the Gospel. It is my deepest
conviction that unless we clearly understand the Gospel, all other aspects of the
Christian faith will be placed in jeopardy. Without the Gospel firmly ensconced as
the touchstone of one's beliefs, there will inevitably be compromise of truth and
capitulation to the beliefs of the world. Nothing is more important that getting the
Gospel right!

OF THIS WEB SITE
The central
focus of this web site is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This makes it necessary
that we clearly state what the Gospel is. We believe that the Reformation
statement salvation is "in Christ alone, through grace alone, by faith
alone, and to the glory of God alone" is as good a summary as there is.
Therefore, this web site will be organized around these themes or aspects of the
Gospel. Below are links to each of the major sections of this site. As you go to
each of them you will follow a "thread" of links to information
related to that theme.
