Bound By Our Past

“The Bible says a lot about how our past can affect our future. Peter made a wonderful statement about past and present. He said, ‘You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.’

In other words, your past is your past. You may have to revisit it in order to understand the abuse, the dishonor, and the way you have been disvalued. You may have to go there with Jesus; sometimes that isn’t easy, and it takes a long time. But Jesus will go with you. And when you come back, learn to identify your prisons through his light and not through the darkness of your past.”
