Personal Bible Study Helps

The following links are provided to aid and encourage personal Bible study. The approach I have taken is to start with a page that shares a practical, straight forward approach to lay Bible study which almost anyone can enjoy. In the future, several other pages will be provided for intermediate Bible study (inductive study using the English Bible) and an advanced study (using basic knowledge of Bible language and exegetical aids).

The first link is an introduction to a method of Bible study given by R. A. Torrey. It encourages regular Bible study and suggests a method and attitude for doing personal Bible study.

The second link offers a step-by-step description for conducting personal Bible study. The third link is given to take you to a Worksheet that can be printed off for writing out the results of your Bible study.

NOTE: You must first down-load a free version of Acrobat Reader at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html  in order to access this resource.

The fourth link provides a list of basic resources - Bible translations, handbooks, concordances, study guides, commentaries and software - for doing basic English Bible Study. Many of these resources can be located on the Web at Amazon.com.

The last link takes you to an excellent Bible reading schedule. There is no other way to learn the message of the Bible than to read through the entire Bible several times. I encourage you to read daily and to read through the Bible every year. My advice is that you can never read the Bible too much. The greatest need among Christians is simply a greater familiarity with what the Bible says.
